DOUGLAS'.   IMAGE OF A MILKMAID AND A GROUP OF FOUR JERSEY COWS.  A MILKMAID IS MILKING A COW ON THE RIGHT SIDE.   A CUTE LITTLE CALF HAS A SPIKED MUZZLE ON ITS NOSE.  THE PAINTING IS SIGNED WITH THE INITIALS 'ED' ON THE END OF THE WOODEN MALLET ON THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER.

 

EDWIN DOUGLAS IS BEST KNOWN FOR HIS PAINTINGS OF JERSEY COWS.   I FOUND THIS IMAGE IN A BOOK TITLED 'GREAT PAINTINGS BY GREAT PAINTERS', DATED 1901.   THE PICTURE IS TITLED 'THE JERSEY FAMILY' WITH INFO ON THE ARTIST 'EDWIN DOUGLAS' AND THE SUBJECT.   THE IMAGE IS FROM SOME SPOT ON THE JERSEY ISLAND WHICH IS NEAR THE COAST OF NORMANDY.  THE ISLE WAS KNOWN AS THE HOME OF THE JERSEY BREED OF CATTLE.  

 

OVERALL FRAMED TO AN IMPRESSIVE SIZE OF 59 X 37 WITH GLASS.
